17 O Lord, why hast [a]thou made us to err from thy ways? and hardened our heart from thy fear? Return for thy [b]servant’s sake, and for the tribes of thine inheritance.

18 The people of thine holiness have possessed it, but a little [c]while: for our adversaries have trodden down thy Sanctuary.

19 We have been as they, over whom thou never barest rule, and upon whom thy name was not called.
